We are John and Joellen Tubbs and we moved onto our farm in the spring of 2003. We took time out that first year to plant a couple hundred blueberry bushes and some asparagus seeds! We believe that you *are* what you eat and we wanted to become as sustainable as we could. We have since added our own beef, turkey & chicken. We'd be happy to share our learning and to teach those that might be interested. We have lots going on with the bread bakery and commercial kitchen, all the animals and just life in general! We're working on stocking up some pepper jelly, and we would love to put together some of the Yoder baskets along with our granola and breads for you.
We have loft space available and we need to locate 2 interns to come help. Interested? Call us for the application and to check us out! We want to find interns to bring on board for the early spring. We have 800 blueberry bushes that will need lots of care and maintaining. We have drip line to install in the blueberry fields and we are taking more blueberry cuttings! We will be clearing land in order to put in 10,000 more asparagus crowns and we expect that we could probably keep 3 people busy for sometime! Please give us a call!
We have some new calves around the pasture and the only one left to deliver is Cocoa - some of you might remember, she was the first calf born on our farm and she has a special place in our hearts! Her mother, Daisy, was a full blooded Jersey and was our favorite. She was spoiled rotten! She was tame as could be and would follow us anywhere! Hopefully, Cocoa will have a little heifer and we'll get to be able to bottle feed it and watch it grow up into a milker like her mom! Every farm needs a good milk cow and we have sorely missed old Daisy! Just in case though, we also have a little Holstein Jersey cross named Bessie that will be bred soon and another little calf we named Katey Gus! We have 9 cows here now and are using rotational grazing and expanding our pasture into some of the wooded acreage we have.
We're really busy and going in 10 different directions! We're becoming more like locals here in Edmonton and always have time to set a spell though! As you travel up or down Hwy 68 in Metcalfe County, Kentucky - feel free to stop in! We have farm fresh eggs, homemade bread inthe freezer and will be happy to rustle up a pot of coffee and visit a bit!
Come intern on Tubbs' Farmstead!
